AI - the truth (for now…!)
AI is nothing more than collected datasets.
That means it learns from what has happened before.
It looks for patterns and probability.
That means it’s going to resort to the most likely answer, never the outlier.
Creativity is all about the unpredictable; the new, the never heard or seen before - that’s not going to be in the datasets!
It starts to deliver the same thing over and over again.
Even though AI frequently makes mistakes, they aren't serendipitous creative moments.
Instead, they are dumb, random “errors”.
When AI gets things wrong, it doesn’t correct its mistakes and fix them; it will often dig itself a bigger hole!
An old joke went like this:
‘What’s the difference between a drum machine and a drummer?’
Answer:
“You only have to punch the information into a drum machine once.”
AI now makes that joke obsolete.
And after working with it, you will likely give up after an hour or so and think: “screw it, I’ll do it the old way.”
