Mixing Checklist
Let’s make sure everything is truly ready to be mixed!!
So you’ve just finished recording your tracks, and you want to send them over for mixing…?
Let’s make sure your sessions are ready for a smooth transfer!
Here's a simple checklist to go over before you call it done:
Notes for the session are included: Title of the song, the Artist, the date, what key or keys the song is in, BPM (Beats Per Minute) and
any essential information that can help should all be included. All track files are labelled clearly with instrument/type and part.
( - not a generic 'Audio_01' or 'Guitar 2' - which is confusing to someone who is not familiar with your song!)All individual track files are rendered from Measure #1, Beat 1. Also known as “Time Zero” - 0:00:00:00.
(Even if parts do not start until later in the song, they need a reference point, so when they are dragged into the project, all tracks line up as expected!)If sharing complete sessions, and not just WAV files - All buses, folders, and groups are named consistently.
All audio files are contiguous - all one piece - so nothing is missing, offline, or scattered.
All bounced (printed) effects processing is documented.
If supplying a drive, (physical or virtual), ensure that it is labelled with its contents listed.
Keep unused or duplicated tracks cleaned up, and properly named, to avoid confusion.
Once you check these off your list, anyone should be able to open your audio files, or session, and get to work on yur mix!!
The better you do at clarifying all of your tracks, notes, and session information - the sooner your mix can proceed!!
